The NRG Greenboard™ Manufacturing Process
NRG Greenboard™ starts in a small semi-viscouse state, know as polystyrene, which is derived from a raw material called styrene. Polystyrene comes in bead form and is a colourless, hard plastic that has a fire retardant. |
| |
 |
| |
| To make expanded polystyrene (EPS) the polystyrene beads are expanded into foam which is accomplished through the use of heat. NRG Manufacturing uses pentane, which contain no CFC’S. This process-polymerization-fills the polystyrene with millions of air pockets, which helps it to expand and also gives it a low thermal conductivity. It is at this stage that vermin retardant and green colour is added. |

| |
| The expanded polystyrene beads are placed in a block mould, steam is added to the foam a 5000 x
1200 x 600 block of high density NRG Greenboard™. |
| |
Blocks are cut into various sheet thicknesses on NRG Manufacturing’s state of the art Wintech Hot
Wire Cutting Machine, ensuring accurate sheet sizing. NRG also supplies a range of sunhoods and
mouldings and can cut any shape imaginable. |
